Building Bridge: Our Home in Oreland

  • Bridge Community Church was founded in 2006. Over the years we traveled from place to place, renting spaces for Sunday gatherings in Cheltenham, Elkins Park and Glenside. No matter where we landed, we sought to be a bridge across all that divides us from one another and point to Jesus Christ who reconciles us with our God. Being renters also offered us the freedom to devote much of our budget to giving to others, supporting local mercy and international missions.

  • Coming out of the pandemic it became clear to us that the time had come to find a place we could make our home. In a time when we all were more isolated than ever, we longed to be rooted in a particular place. We began a search in our region for a church home in which we could continue to a community of love and care in the way of Jesus, as well as a place we could host and make a home for generations to come. In 2024 we got connected to a property for sale in Oreland, St. Philip in the Fields Episcopal. The property seemed to check every box we were searching for. After much prayer, consideration and considerable leg work by our congregation and some close friends we closed on the property in October 2025.

  • We are now taking first steps of reviving and restoring this lovely property. Our hope is to make it a home for ourselves while honoring the 75 year legacy of the former congregation. Presently, we're raising funds to complete an initial phase of renovations. In addition, we are doing several restoration and beautification projects ourselves. And finally, we're considering how we can begin to support and be a good neighbor to our new Oreland community. It has been a joy to meet so many people from the community during our work days.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
— Colossians 2:6-7

The Building in Oreland

For 75 years, St. Philip’s in the Field served as a place of worship and community—and now, we’re grateful to begin a new chapter in this historic space as Bridge’s future home. As we prepare the building for life together, we’ve selected our contractors for Phase 1 of construction, and our architect that they will be working alongside. We’ve also been caring for the building’s essential systems: all boilers recently passed safety inspection, with several serviced and in strong condition, though we’re currently discerning next steps for repairing circulation fans in the sanctuary. Most recently, work has begun on scoping and clearing the main sewer line to ensure long-term health and sustainability of the property. We’re encouraged by the progress so far and continue to pray for wisdom as we move forward.

Ways to Serve

We need every hand as we prepare our new home!
As we settle into the property in Oreland, there are so many meaningful ways to help—from clearing brush and caring for the grounds, to assisting with early repairs, cleaning projects, and preparing the Sunday School building for ministry use. Our regular work days have already brought people together to clean flower beds, remove debris, and make the space welcoming for our neighbors, and we’ll continue hosting these as we move through the renovation process.

Here are a few ways you can jump in:

  • Work Days – Help with outdoor cleanup, light repairs, organizing spaces, and preparing rooms for ministry.

  • Prayer Team – Join others in walking the neighborhood and praying over our new community and ministry opportunities.

  • Cleaning Crews – Assist with deep-cleaning projects in the sanctuary and Sunday School building as utilities and repairs come online.

  • Hospitality Setup – Support early gatherings and events by helping us create warm, welcoming spaces for neighbors and church family.
