NEWS / INFORMATION

  • Summer Festival in Colossians: Fullness in Christ

We are studying the apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians this summer. We expect to discover that, though the Colosse circumstances are not the same as our own, we are basically the same. Dig down into human nature far enough and we begin to look like identical twins. The circumstances were this: Epaphras had come to Paul and reported that all was not well in the church, and he asked Paul to help. The church had been adding some rules and throwing in a little angel worship. What they wanted was MORE. When you read in between the lines, the church thought that Jesus, and his death and resurrection, were not quite enough, and that makes perfect sense of us. Jesus is enough when things are going well, but, when we get stuck in sin or waylaid by difficult circumstances, the cross can start looking small. In response, Paul wrote,

“For in Christ the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ” (2:9-10).

This summer we want to know again that Jesus is more than enough.
